Reflecting and looking ahead with Gerard van der Hoeven

iSHARE has entered a new phase of maturity over the past year. The first iSHARE Participants have completed the implementation process and signed the contract with the iSHARE Foundation. The network of iSHARE Implementation Partners and Community Partners has continued to expand. In October we also added the role of iSHARE Identity Provider. And last but not least, there has been further growth in the number of logistics companies that are working to implement iSHARE.

While interest in iSHARE remains high within the transport and logistics sector, the data-sharing scheme is also attracting growing attention from other industries, both within the Netherlands and beyond.

In its vision for stimulating data exchange between businesses ('Nederlandse visie op data deling tussen bedrijven'), the Dutch government mentioned iSHARE as an example of a scheme that facilitates the uniform, simple and controlled sharing of data. iSHARE was also invited to participate in the Data Sharing Coalition – an initiative of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy aimed at reaching concrete agreements to foster cross-sectoral data sharing.

Besides that, the International Data Spaces Association (IDSA) – an international network of businesses and research institutes committed to stimulating data sharing globally – embraced the iSHARE scheme and integrated it into the IDS architecture. As a result, it will be easier for IDSA members and iSHARE Participants to share data worldwide in the future.

In the meantime, we’ve worked closely with logistics partners on the continuous development and building use cases of the scheme in order to align it even more closely with the logistics sector’s daily needs, and we’ve supported IT specialists to make it easy for them to implement iSHARE.

In other words, everyone has worked tremendously hard in 2019, and it shows. Thanks to the growing interest for our scheme – both at home and abroad – and the enthusiasm and input of all our partners and of course our official iSHARE Participants, we are convinced that we are heading towards an even brighter future in 2020.

We’re looking forward to a new year in which iSHARE tangibly improves supply-chain collaboration and hence supports the further growth of the Dutch economy.

On behalf of the entire iSHARE team, I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. See you in 2020!
